Janessa Swanson
Janessa’s current work includes addressing anxiety and other mental health conditions in children, adolescents, and adults. She also provides support in relation to grief and bereavement and end of life care, including navigating the process of Medical Assistance In Dying (MAiD). She completed a health specialization Master of Social Work (MSW) degree at the University of Waterloo, with a focus on grief and bereavement, and is a registered member of the College of Social Workers of Ontario. Janessa obtained additional training in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) from Wilfred Laurier University and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).
Beginning her career in the domestic violence sector and later transitioning to hospice palliative care, Janessa has developed extensive knowledge in relation to grief and bereavement and end of life care. With a focus on grief, Janessa provides an opportunity to explore difficult emotions while simultaneously fostering acceptance and growth following the death of a loved one or a significant life change. Janessa’s training also enables her to guide clients through Advance Care Planning to determine values, goals, and wishes and consider who their Substitute Decision Maker will be. She also assists with end-of-life planning and legacy work, to support resource navigation, helping to ensure that your values and wishes are honoured, and your loved ones are supported during this sensitive time. In addition, Janessa has had extensive experience supporting individuals and the families of individuals who are navigating the process of MAiD.
