Comprehensive Psychological Assessments
Our comprehensive psychological assessments:
- Can be completed with all ages (preschool to adult).
- Are tailored to the questions asked and informed by observations and assessment data as it unfolds.
- Provide understanding of socio-emotional, behavioural, and academic concerns and diagnostic clarity to help individuals with their next steps.
- Are helpful for: identifying or clarifying a diagnosis (where appropriate); school planning (including identifying appropriate education supports); post-secondary planning; self-understanding, DSO/ODSP applications, and many other purposes.
- Are completed largely in person.
What to expect about the process:
A typical comprehensive psychological assessment has many components:
- An intake interview to gain background information and determine the scope of the assessment.
- Several testing sessions using standardized tests that are selected to address the specific referral questions. Testing sessions often occur once per week during the assessment period, though this can vary.
- Completion of detailed questionnaires addressing various aspects of socio-emotional and behavioural functioning by the people who have knowledge of the client (such as parents and teachers).
- Review of educational records and other relevant health-related documents (such as report cards or reports from a doctor or other healthcare provider), as necessary to address the assessment questions.
- A feedback meeting to share the findings and recommendations.
- Completion of a detailed written report documenting the assessment results and recommendations
- Additional meetings (such as a school meeting) arranged with the psychologist as needed.
